Postdoctoral Positions

GCCRC Job Opportunities

Postdoctoral positions are opened in all areas of the GCCRC “From Gene to Trait” platform that includes gene discovery, genomics, metagenomics, bioinformatics, microbiome, plant phenotyping, gene editing, plant transformation and molecular breeding. The GCCRC core platform uses maize as a model system and, for certain investigations, also uses Arabidopsis thaliana. The use of maize as a model plant allows GCCRC team to rapidly evaluate its technologies in field trials. By working with an agronomically important crop will foster collaborative work with industry.

The candidate will design and execute a research program to meet the GCCRC milestones. The candidate will be mainly working at our facilities at CBMEG, University of Campinas, but different aspects of the project might also involve collaboration with national and international GCCRC collaborators.

It is highly desired that the candidates demonstrate experience in data presentation, publications writing and national and international grant applications.

We are looking for highly motivated candidates with expertise in:

  • Basic biochemistry and molecular biology with experience in cloning, expression, purification of recombinant proteins. Expertise in enzymatic assays, enzyme kinetics, mitochondria isolation and respiration measurements are highly desired.
  • All aspects of bioinformatics including genomics, metagenomics, transcriptomics, genome assembling, genome annotation, RNAseq analysis, data base management. Candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the GCCRC projects associated with the Earth Biogenome Project in collaboration with UC Davis, USA.
  • Agrobacterium maize transformation with expertise in all aspects of gene manipulation, construct design, embryo transformation, plant regeneration and seed genotyping.
  • Gene editing in maize and Arabidopsis with experience in gene targeting, promoter engineering, construct design and plant genotyping.
  • Molecular breeding, GWAS to develop a research program in maize focused in creating germplasm incorporating conventional and biotech traits.

Candidates must prove expertise in the specified research areas described above with PhD in related relevant disciplines. It is highly desired that candidates demonstrate strong interest in pursuing top-level fundamental research, work independently and interact with researchers from other fields.

We offer a FAPESP or TT5 postdoctoral equivalent scholarship for 4 years. Its is expected that candidate have the profile and experience in obtaining independent fellowships and/or national or international research grants.

Applications should be submitted to GCCRC Jobs. Applicants should be fluent in English. The application should include a detailed CV, the names and contact details of at least two reference persons and a personal statement in English. Potentially eligible candidates will be invited for an interview. Applications are welcome until the positions are filled.
